Potential good look at the new female and male Pokemon trainers for Pokemon X&Y. Also, 4 new Pokemon to absorb… I’m digging the Panda. A lot of small detailed tidbits are in the new Corocoro magazine, like the region will be named Karos and be based on France.

On top of that, looks like you can VERY minimally [according to the photo] customize your character? At the very least there will be default players to roll around as.

There is a small chance these may be unconfirmed, will update as I find out.

Maybe I should rename the title to the most anticipated of right now, because this is surely due to change at any given moment with announced titles at the yearly gaming events. These games are maybe, the most obvious choices possible and I can’t help it. I have named a…

I’ve had an extremely amazing time playing multiple games this year, which means I think I had way too many games to juggle at certain points. It’s admittedly hard to whittle it down to only five amazing games, but it has to be done. Bear in mind, this felt like an internal struggle as I think I may have left my heart with more than just the five titles I’ll announce.

Aside from the huge success of the Uncharted series, the team at Naughty Dog has been hard at work for the past two years creating a completely new world for their upcoming PS3 exclusive, The Last of Us.

During a recent interview with Game Informer, director Bruce Straley and creative director Neil Druckmann discuss the game’s two main characters Joel and Ellie, and the post-apocalyptic world that they must survive in. And from what is known so far, this will be a world that will truly distinguish itself among other post-apocalyptic offerings, full of wildlife among the desolate city streets.

The game’s protagonist, Joel is living day by day as a black market contraband dealer, emotionally distraught by the events that caused his life to change so drastically. He receives a mission to smuggle 14-year old Ellie out of the quarantine zone she was born in and into the unknown to find a safe haven away from military control. Despite his own apprehension, Joel becomes obligated to keep Ellie safe as they explore the ruins of civilization together. Much of the story is still a mystery but this video divulges enough to make me want to know more.

I always seem to get a confused look from someone when I mention playing a charming little claymation point-and-click adventure by the name of Neverhood back in the 90’s. Of course, the game did only come out for PC, and only sold roughly 42,000 copies before being discontinued. So okay, maybe it makes sense some of you didn’t play it.

But as luck would have it, the game may see a port on a yet to be determined mobile device. Then perhaps your lifeless stares will instead be replaced with a shared joy of an underrated game.

So far it’s up in the air whether we will see a re-release at all. Developer Bazinga is currently in negotiations for exclusive rights to the game, and considering possible releases for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android phones, Android tablets, and Windows Phones.

Atlus’s upcoming romance/puzzle/platform game Catherine will be getting a North American demo for PSN and XBLA July 12.

Some of you may have already attempted to traverse Vincent’s nightmares in the japanese demo, most likely finding it more confusing then the game already is — being in another language and all. But maybe when the english demo comes out next week, we’ll all be able to make sense of it all.

Then again, probably not.

You know you’re a Final Fantasy VII fanboy when you lose your marbles over the very existence of a Sephiroth sackboy costume. Especially if you’ve been waiting on pins and needles since one was teased three years ago at Tokyo Game Show 2008.

Well according to Playstation Blog, a full set of Final Fantasy VII costume packs should hit the Playstation Store July 13. The pack will contain the sacky likeness of Cloud, Aeris, Tifa, and yes of course Sephiroth, for $1.99 each. But if you purchase them all together for $5.99, you’ll receive a bonus Vincent costume.

So now you can create and share the game the way it was supposed to be played, with Aeris alive and having Cloud’s babies.

DICE’s highly anticipated military fps Battlefield 3 has somehow managed to piss off a bunch of fans with EA’s announcement of their planned downloadable content, which for now, will only be made available to customers who pre-order the limited edition game.

What’s stirring up the outrage is the “Physical Warfare” pack that comes with the Back to the Karkland expansion pack. Customers must pre-order the limited edition of BF3 through select retailers in order to get both parts of the DLC package, which boycotting gamers say will “create an unfair advantage” by giving those customers exclusive guns and ammunition.

More importantly, it forces otherwise patient consumers to purchase the game right away if they want the extra content. Understandably this has fans of the game upset, and refusing to buy the game altogether.

The boycott which was organized on Reddit, has reached well over a thousand comments and is getting major attention from notable gaming news sites. Members who organized the boycott make it clear that the DLC plans were organized by EA, and not DICE. And are hoping their message will cause EA to “wake up and change their decision.”

Far from the momentum Nintendo originally predicted the 3DS would have, after 13 weeks on the market, their latest handheld has finally reached one million units sold in it’s home country of Japan.

To put that into perspective for you, the original DS reached one million sales in just four weeks. The DS Lite and DSi both took eight weeks. You could say it’s doing better then the DSi XL which took twenty-five weeks. But that would be like making fun of the kid who gets picked last in gym. And that’s just plain mean.

At a financial briefing held in April, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata attributed disappointing 3DS sales to the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in March. “Of course, it is obvious that the great earthquake largely affected the sales, but I should not blame this situation just on the impact of the earthquake,” Iwata said. “There are other challenges that have shown up; therefore, we have revised our scenario for diffusion and are making efforts to get the popularity of Nintendo 3DS back on track for the upcoming summer season.”

Hopefully with the recent release of the eShop, upcoming Netflix support, and some strong titles announced and planned for this year, Nintendo can turn it around this summer.

Another week. Another hacking of a gaming website.

The latest target of which, Bethesda, confirmed today that their websites, community forums, and statistic sites connected to Brink were hacked into sometime over the weekend. A message posted this afternoon on the Bethesda Blog states, “We believe we have taken appropriate action to protect our data against these attacks.”

Similar to last week’s intrusion of the Codemasters site, financial information like credit card data was not accessed. But user names, email addresses, and/or passwords are likely to have been compromised in the attack.

Bethesda’s post recommends it’s users change their passwords as soon as possible. If you happen to use the same password on other websites, it may be in your best interest to change those as well.

Do you like rainbows? Sure, maybe you think you do, but have you ever really seen a rainbow?

You play as a kitten. You’re on a mission to get through a blue, blue sky that’s filled with deadly sparkle dust. Throw some rainbows and catchy, hyperactive, techno jams in the mix and you have yourself Techno Kitten Adventure. The hit Xbox Live Indie Game of last year has been remixed and revamped, and is now available to iOS users — coming soon for the Android Marketplace.

Game play in TKA is simple enough, to explain at least. First off, your kitten will automatically drift to the right of the screen. Basically, you press and hold your finger down on the touchscreen to give your kitten some altitude. The longer you hold your finger down, the higher your kitten goes. But once you release your finger, your kitten will drop down. As typical with other games in the ‘runner’ genre, everything, and I do mean everything is trying to distract you.

I mentioned sparkle dust before. Your kitteh must never come in contact with the sparkle dust, no matter how camouflaged with the background it may be at times. If you do come in contact with it, just prepare yourself for the most heart-wrenching meow, and your kitty will disintegrate. Of course, the longer you keep your feline companion alive, the higher your score will be.

Let’s just say, that’s easier said then done.

You’ll have your fair share of dolphins sporting top hats, pterodactyls with bow ties, fire demons, UFOs, and more rainbows, all coming together simultaneously in a wondrous seizure-inducing display. If you let your mind rest for one instant, you will fail. It’s easy to make the comparisons between it and another insanely difficult runner game, Robot Unicorn Attack, which I also couldn’t put down for quite some time.

For the price, Techno Kitten Adventure is an easy game to recommend. Perfect to blow some time, but polished enough to really warrant the asking price. You can give the game a try for free too. If you get into it (which you’ll know pretty quickly if you will or won’t), you can purchase the other three levels for just $0.99 each, gaining access to other playable cats and awesome jams. TKA is also compatible with Game Center allowing you to see where your kitten-navigating skills rank among other players, and unlock achievements.

Codemasters website breached, thousands of user's information compromised

Oh, you haven’t heard? Cyber-attacks are the new hot thing on the streets. It’s what all the ‘hip’ young whippersnappers do these days.

The most recent of these attacks is against UK game developer Codemasters, known for Dirt 3 which released just a few weeks back. During the June 3rd breach on the Codemasters website, user personal information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, passwords, IP addesses and gamer tags were all accessed by hackers.

Codemasters sent out emails informing it’s users of the website breach. According to their emails, Codemasters insists user payment information could not have been accessed because the company uses “external payment providers.” But the company is still advising users to “change any passwords you have associated with other Codemasters accounts. If you use the same login information for other sites, you should change that information too.”

For now the official website for Codemasters is down, and is redirecting
users to the company’s Facebook page. A new website is planned to launch later this year.

Source: Games Industry

E3: Square Enix Exec finds lack of japanese titles 'humiliating'

If you kept up with the barrage of E3 coverage this year, you may have noticed the new Tomb Raider game during Microsoft’s press conference. Crystal Dynamics showed a rather lengthy live stage demo showcasing the game. Needless to say, Lara Croft is back — this time dirtier then ever.

Other Square Enix/Eidos games were also given the E3 spotlight. Hitman Absolution and Deus Ex: Human Revolution had live demos to play on the show floor.

Amongst the countless megaton announcements that were dropped this past week, you may have asked yourself — Where were the japanese Square Enix games hiding? Apparently, you wouldn’t be the only one wondering that either.

Koji Taguchi, a senior exec at Square Enix, tweeted the following on the last day of E3: “Because we merged with Eidos and had games like Tomb Raider, Deus [Ex] and Hitman, as a company we were able to keep face. But the decline in Japanese titles was almost humiliating. This has been a week where I worried daily about how we can fix this.”

With the more then lackluster PC release of Final Fantasy XIV behind them, there is a definite shortage of new IPs coming from the Square Enix division of the merger. I should say kudos to Square Enix for getting their foot into western game culture, but there’s still a part of me that misses a good ol’ JRPG every now and then. Final Fantasy XIII-2 may put Square Enix in good graces for some, but I’m sure we all know what game would put them at god-like status.

So I say to anyone at Square Enix who may be listening. Your move.

During an E3 interview with Reuters, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata expressed his views on the “very strange” near 10 percent fall in Nintendo’s share price since the reveal of the Wii U this Tuesday. “Honestly speaking, the reaction to [Tuesday’s] presentation and what I heard from people I met and the mood of the convention did not chime at all with what happened in the stock market.”

Nintendo is taking a serious gamble with their new console, by putting a higher focus on third party developers that didn’t end up supporting the original Wii. Perhaps investors feel Nintendo is pulling away from the comfort of primarily catering to the casual gamer.

Iwata added that the mixed reaction from investors is very reminecent of Nintendo’s announcement of the Wii back in 2006. He went on to say, “People who came to the presentation and tried it out have understood very well that it opens up a lot of new possibilities. But people who have not tried it will find it hard to believe that this controller will change things.”

On Friday, three of the ‘hacktivist’ group known as Anonymous, were arrested in three separate cities of Spain on charges of the recent hacking of the Playstation Network. Police investigations were being conducted due to hacking attempts on government websites last year.

Spanish police claim the three men represent the local leadership of the Anonymous organization, but it’s still unknown whether these claims are true.

In addition to being linked to the Playstation Network debacle, the suspects are also being charged with multiple other attacks on government websites from around the world, including two banks located in Spain, and an Italian energy group.

All three men are being described as Spanish and in their 30’s. Police are saying the three suspects who were arrested in Almeria, Barcelona and Alicante, “were guilty of coordinated computer hacking attacks from a server set up in a house in Gijon in the north of Spain.”

Rage, id Software’s upcoming post-apocalyptic shooter, has been delayed from a September 13 to an October 4 release according to their official site.

Last year id Software announced that they will no longer be licensing their engine for outside developers. And will keep their engine under corporate parent Zenimax, which also owns Bethesda Softworks.

In a recent interview with Gamasutra, id co-founder and lead programmer John Carmack said that he’s happy to be out of the engine licensing business, allowing the studio to finish up on Rage and continue work on the further-off Doom 4.

“I didn’t want to be in the process of supporting a lot of outside teams, because you feel beholden to not make radical changes when it’s going to pull the rug out from lots of other people,” he explained. “When it’s your own team, you can make the sensible decision that [a big change] is going to be worth it, that it’s going to suck for a while, but we make our way through it. But you don’t want to do that to other people.”

Bioware recently showed us that Mass Effect 3 will support voice recognition, giving players the ability to assign commands to their squad members without pausing in the middle of combat. From what was seen you’ll be able to command party members to engage the enemy, fall back and take cover, or have them use their abilities.

This voice recognition feature has been announced for Kinect owners only, which is odd seeing as this technology is nothing we haven’t seen done before. Most recently, games like R.U.S.E. AND Tom Clancy’s End War used similar voice commands for their real-time strategy games. And all that you needed was a standard headset at the time.

My hope is that Kinect will affect the way we play Mass Effect 3 in other interesting ways. Perhaps we’ll have to wait until March of next year to know for sure.

Overall the voice command feature genuinely seems like a natural fit. Despite all the awkward looks you may get if someone walks in on you playing.

'Flare Red' 3DS coming to Japan next month

The first of what it sure to many color variations of the 3DS has recently been announced. Unfortunately, this one in particular will only be available in Japan on July 14th, releasing the same day as Star Fox 64 3D. The ‘Flare Red’ model was initially shown off as part of Nintendo’s promotional materials for last years E3 3DS reveal, but in the end the company decided to release with an ‘Aqua Blue’ and ‘Cosmo Black’ model for both regions.

With Star Fox 64 3D still set for a September 11th release here in the states, one might expect that we would get the same package deal. But the possibility of us seeing this particular 3DS variation is yet to be seen.
